Wellness retreats are surging in popularity due to a rise in health awareness. A wellness retreat offers a great opportunity to focus on your personal wellbeing – essential for anyone experiencing a slump. Screens are a no-go, schedules are loose, and wellness is at the forefront both physically and mentally.

While the benefits of wellness retreats are irrefutable, things can go wrong, that’s why you may want to consider nib travel insurance. Whether you're meditating in the jungles of Indonesia or striking a pigeon pose on a Caribbean island, you can truly focus on you rather than the risks and uncertainties that come with travel — like what to do if an accident, illness, or injury spoil your travel plans.

Why considering nib travel insurance for wellness retreats is essential

Travel insurance for wellness trips can come in handy for things like:

Coverage for medical emergencies

Medical emergencies can strike at any time, and receiving adequate care in a foreign country can be costly and complicated, particularly if you require hospitalisation due to severe injury or illness. Medical coverage for wellness travel is designed to help when you need urgent medical care, whether that means assistance finding a doctor because you suffered an injury on a yoga retreat in Thailand or have been struck down with a serious illness and require medical evacuation and repatriation so you can get the care you need at home.

Trip cancellation, delays, and interruptions

We all know life is unpredictable. But unpredictability and travel aren’t exactly the best of friends. Even the best-laid plans can become untangled when an unforeseen circumstance arises. Whether you need to cancel your trip due to a family emergency, your flights have been cancelled or delayed, or some other trip interruption foils your planned retreat, travel insurance can help protect you against financial losses by covering non-refundable expenses. And if your retreat is interrupted by events like a natural disaster, insurance may be able to cover additional travel costs or the unused portion of your trip.

Loss or theft of your personal belongings

Wellness retreats overseas—or even health retreats here in Australia—often involve packing things like yoga mats, fitness gear, and other personal wellness items. Losing these essentials, whether the airline has lost your luggage or a thrifty thief has swiped your gear, is less than ideal. Our travel insurance covers the loss or theft of personal belongings, so you can continue on your path to feeling zen.

Travelling with family

Headed on a family wellness holiday? There are a host of travel insurance benefits for wellness trips abroad where the whole brood is in-tow. Whether your child falls ill just before departure and you need to recoup costs, or you’re taking the family on a retreat somewhere remote and want reassurance that you can access emergency assistance if something goes wrong.

What to pack for your wellness retreat

  • Comfortable clothing: For yoga, meditation, and relaxation.
  • A travel first-aid kit and any necessary medications on your packing list. Aways check that any medications that you’re bringing with you are allowed into the country or region your visiting, as some countries have strict guidelines on letting travellers bring in certain medications.
  • Travel documents: Passport, visa, travel insurance policy. Make copies of any documents and receipts just in case you need to have proof of ID and proof of purchase.
  • Personal care items: Skincare, essential oils, and natural beauty products.
  • Yoga mat/accessories: If not provided by the retreat.
  • Healthy snacks: For in-between retreat meals.
  • Reusable water bottle: Stay hydrated with ease.
