Am I covered for countries other than the ones I list on my policy?
- What if the country I want to travel to isn't listed?
- What if I've already started travelling and want to make a side trip to a country I didn't list?
- Can I add regions or countries once I start traveling?
- I've purchased my policy, but now want to add more countries. What do I do?
The easiest way to make sure you’re covered for the countries you’re planning on travelling to, is to select them all when you purchase your travel insurance with us.
But if you’ve already started travelling and are considering a side trip to a country other than those you specified, there’s a few things you should know.
What if the country I want to travel to isn’t listed?
While nib insurance provides travel insurance coverage for travel to more than 130 countries worldwide, there’s still many we can’t or won’t provide cover for.
We exclude cover for travel to sanctioned countries or those with a Do Not Travel advisory against them by the Australian Government. That means if you select a region when purchasing your policy, you’re only covered for those countries in that region we provide cover to. If you select individual countries when you purchase your policy, as opposed to a region, we may be able to advise if we are not able to offer cover in that country.
If you’re not sure whether your destination can be covered, contact us.
What if I’ve already started travelling and want to make a side trip to a country I didn’t list?
The best thing to do if your plans change is to contact us to check if you’re covered under your current policy. You may still be covered to travel to that missing country if it’s in the same region of cover on your policy.
Can I add regions or countries once I’ve started travelling?
It’s not possible to add other countries or regions to your policy after you buy it. However, we recommend contacting us to check if you might be covered for other countries in the same region.
If you’re visiting country that is outside your declared regions and after contacting us, we are not able to confirm that you are covered for that country, then you may be able to purchase another separate policy for the extra destination(s), for the specific time period you will be travelling.

I’ve purchased my policy, but now want to add more countries. What do I do?
If you’re still within the 21-day cooling off period and you haven’t already left Australia, you can cancel for a full refund and re-purchase your policy with the new countries added.
If you’re outside the 21-day cooling off period, or have already left Australia, contact us.
Cover is subject to the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions outlined in the PDS. Read your policy carefully and contact us if you have any queries.
