Whether you’re planning on a relaxing cruise though the Pacific Islands, island hopping in the Caribbean, or venturing into the icy extremes of Antarctica, our policies can cover you if it’s not quite smooth sailing.
What’s covered
Cover for cruising is automatically covered on our international policies. This means you can be covered, up to policy limits, for benefits including:
- Sudden illness or injury – if your holiday is torpedoed by sea-sickness, or you are injured being tossed around in rough seas, our policies can cover emergency medical treatment, both on board and on shore.
- Medical Evacuation – Our policies offer cover if you need to be evacuated to medical assistance, or if you need to return to Australia. Keep in mind that once you’re home in Australia, we’re not able to cover ongoing medical costs.
- Covid expenses – if you are diagnosed with Covid-19 whilst on your cruise, and require medical treatment, you’re covered on all our policies. Our International Comprehensive, Australian Travel and Annual Multi Trip plans can also provide cover for some coronavirus related events, including cover for quarantine expenses and trip cancellation, up to the relevant benefit limit.
- Unexpected delays - if your flights are delayed on the way to pick up your cruise, our policies can cover trip delay.
- Lost luggage - if your bags are accidentally lost, stolen or damaged we may cover replacement or repair of your items.
- Cancellation – if your pre-paid shore activity is cancelled because of severe weather, natural disaster, strike and other events, we may cover the non-refundable portion.

What’s not covered?
Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything and there are some things we won’t cover, including, but not limited to:
- If you travel even though you know you are unfit to travel, or you travel against medical advice;
- Being intoxicated by alcohol or drugs;
- Intentionally and recklessly placing yourself in situations that pose a risk to your personal safety;
- luggage or personal effects that you leave unattended or that occurs because you do not take reasonable care to protect it;
- Expenses you have not made every reasonable attempt to recover from the carrier, accommodation provider, booking agents, travel agents, any compensation scheme, or any other source.
What if I’m cruising around Australia?
Even when cruising just off the coast of Australia, one of our international plans will need to be chosen in order to have cover on board for medical treatment. Our domestic plans offer cover for inland river cruises within Australia.
What do I do if I need to make a claim?
If you need to make any claims on your policy, you can claim online. You can even claim whilst you’re still travelling. A few tips on making claims:
- If you’re claiming for medical expenses make sure you get and keep doctor’s reports, hospital reports and any other relevant medical reports.
- If you’re claiming for other benefits, be sure to keep all receipts, itineraries, documentation relating to cancellations, delays, lost baggage, you’ll need this information to make a claim.
Cover is subject to the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions outlined in the PDS. Read your policy carefully and contact us if you have any queries.
